Welcome to RPG Blokes and to our third and final Dragon Warriors live play session where we'll finish off the adventure, the Serpent's Venom, and have a little discussion about how things went at the end. Or how well they went in the end, hopefully. And if you listen to the last two episodes, you'll understand exactly where we are, but for those that are dipping in just here I need a reminder. Before I pass over to John, I'll just do a quick recap. So we were hired effectively to go to a local temple, a forbidden place of old, that had once contained a cult, and the cult had been destroyed in the past, but the remains of the temple had never really been cleared, and so there's some treasure to be had there, and we were guided there by our patron, a lady called Galadria, who used to be a member of the cult as a child, and now she wanted to go back and use us to reappropriate any any treasure that had been left there and take a share with us on our efforts. And so we went there, we we found our way to it, and she led us into the hill, the entrance behind an old willow tree. And we found ourselves in a central chamber where we fought hard against skeletons and what we consider to be the remaining cultists or villagers or brigands that have using now using the complex for a home. The place is separated to the left and right, whereas the humans, the people, are over to the left hand side. It appears that the forbidden areas, the areas where we need to go are over to the right, where Galadria as a child was forbidden to go and where the artifacts of the cult may still remain. We've cleared out the skeletons and we've seen off the brigands who didn't appreciate us being here and put them back in their box for a while. And we are about to go down into the right hand side of this ancient complex looking for our loot.
SPEAKER_00Well, let's go down and have a look. And Galadria recognised some of the iconography here. Now she's never been here. She's looking round with underment. This looks like to be where they buried the priests of the cult, or in interred the priests of the cult.
SPEAKER_03Okay, so this is something we could potentially loot the sarcophagi.
SPEAKER_00Um you might not want to do that. There may be a curse involved if the god finds. This would be your choice, but this isn't a treasure. What treasure that is not going to be cursed? The offerings room is what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_02Let's get there, get it on the way out if we find nothing else.
SPEAKER_03I'm cursed already. Look at me. Look at my life.
SPEAKER_02Gotta take curses seriously.
SPEAKER_00The next chamber. Now this surprises her. The next chamber is cells. Thank you, Blade Runner the game, for stopping us from saying that word without saying that again. And there's there's manacled skeletons here, strips of leathery flesh hanging off them. They haven't been prepared, if that's what they were, or just being punished. Okay. Uh there's still rags and things left on them. They lit seem to have been there for quite some time. And she looks upset at this. There's no real way of telling who they are, or whether they were put here by the the the ones that butchered her family, or if worse, if if the cult that she left maybe had something to do with that and she she's uncomfortable with that as a thought.
SPEAKER_03I wouldn't be a surprise, would it? I mean Well uh you would be able to identify your parents, but not uh not not if they were in that condition, to be perfectly honest. But maybe we should treat all of these skeletons equally to your parents and make sure that their bones are properly laid to rest. That's I mean it it doesn't may stop them from animating and uh and threatening anybody else around here. That's suggest perhaps they we get a priest in.
SPEAKER_02Do bones just animate themselves or does it require not for intervention?
SPEAKER_00I I would assume so. Otherwise every graveyard everywhere would be infested, wouldn't it?
SPEAKER_03What's the local baron of these lands? Well I need I need to touch house with you, and we can send some people down here and clear out these vagabonds, these brigands here. Well, do you think that's what uh what the last group of uh knights were for then? Oh, I see, and he hasn't sent another, that's true.
SPEAKER_00So the next doorway directly ahead is locked.
SPEAKER_03So we make our way round the corner from the skeleton fight down this corridor with barracks, and then we've encountered the priest sarcophagi and the cells, and then the door at the end. There's no other exit, no other passageway. Not not in that direction. You've still got the other side of the Well hopefully they're frightened enough and superstitious enough, although they've come into the to the tomb, into the into the complex. They might not want to come across the other side by the looks of it, but they're fresh barry.
SPEAKER_02Do you see the body of the person we killed? And what do they look like, these people? Did we know that? Yeah. Do they look like vagabonds? Do they look like Barry?
SPEAKER_03Did you kill one?
SPEAKER_02Oh, we killed one, didn't we? Yeah, Barry finished him off with the fire, actually, to be fair, but yes.
SPEAKER_00So So the the one on fire, or was on fire, he he definitely did. Now he's just smouldering. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Does he wear smouldering robes or does he wear smouldering clothes?
SPEAKER_00Uh no, he's wearing leather armour.
SPEAKER_02Um they sound like brigands.
SPEAKER_00They could be bandits, they could be fairly armour. The other one that was dropped by multiple shots. Okay. Uh, you can all make perception checks. I'll roll for Galadria. No. Oh, close. No. Nobody didn't make it. I rolled a six and I have five. That's close enough. Um patches of raw flesh over him and and raised bumps. What's that? Disease? Some sort of disease. I'm glad we searched him now.
SPEAKER_03Is it a disease I've encountered before? We've seen leprosy and I'm glad you searched him.
SPEAKER_00That's true. You can make uh yeah, it it's some sort of unpleasantness you could die from this.
SPEAKER_03So it's a disease rather than a curse.
SPEAKER_00Don't grapple these guys if they've all got it. It might just be the one. But the the other one died relatively clean with the fire arrow.
SPEAKER_03Okay. I'll I'll call down. I'll just say, let us be. We won't come down there and sort you out. We'll just go we're gonna we're here for other purposes. Stay away from us and we'll stay away from you.
SPEAKER_00Everyone's cautious when there's plagues involved.
SPEAKER_03So we're back round the corridor then to to this door. And so I'll ask her, is this the offering room inside here?
SPEAKER_00I I I don't know. We've as children we were never allowed this far down. In fact, we was never allowed in in this half of the temple. I think that the main temple is to the northwest from here. But again, I was too young to be initiated. Whereas there's family rooms, uh there's a dining chamber down here, uh, entertainment.
SPEAKER_03Harry Aynes, get the work, mate.
SPEAKER_00Uh okay. Yeah, okay. This one's definitely a door. It's definitely a door, mate. This one's definitely a door. It's definitely I'm gonna okay. I'll have a punt uh whatever I can do. Okay, so you can go for a I'm not going to use the system once. Has it been 10 minutes since the fight? Oh yeah. Okay. I know longer headlights. So we're gonna go with a dex roll. Dex roll. Uh sorry, reflexes. Couldn't even go. So many different systems. Nice. Very nice. So you set to work on that with a will, and after uh a few rounds, there's a click. Now this would be one of those big ceremonial keys that goes in here. Yeah, your your tools you probably have to use a dagger or something just to make it a bit buffed, you and okay, so yeah, too easy. I will look at Wayland and just go too easy. Alright, well I'll open it, then I suppose in your grand house, do you have big doors like this protecting your treasures? And they give them a little wink.
SPEAKER_03You overestimate the way we live, I'm afraid. Stay away from the big doors, peasant. I'll uh I'll open the door to this one then. I'll Okay. Well, what light source do we have now that your spell's gone down? Lanterns. From within. Oh, Assassins have the little hand lantern. I've got a lamp. Small lamp. I have a lamp as well if you need one. Okay. I'll I'll have my sword and shield ready then and I'll I'll go through the door. Okay.
SPEAKER_00So on the plus side there is light from within. There's a flickering golden light. Okay, like the Holy Grail or something. Um I think we found the treasure. And you see weapon racks, armour. Unfortunately, the illumination is cast by a floating skull wreathed in golden flames. Impressive. You've opened the door and it's hung in the middle of the chamber. Well, I won't judge by appearances. We'll have a chat. Hello.
SPEAKER_02Greetings.
SPEAKER_00Nothing is said. Galadria is hiding behind you guys. She's nope, nope, nope, nope. That's what is this? Is what is it? That's probably why we weren't allowed here. Sorceress cast spells, I see. I'm gonna try and walk past it. You didn't see. You didn't see shit.
SPEAKER_02You saw him set fire on some to something, but she threw a smoke bomb in this way, didn't she? Well she's yeah.
SPEAKER_03Are there any uh other exits from this?
SPEAKER_00Yes, there is a door on the other side. Okay. But obviously there is the floating skull between you and it.
SPEAKER_03Well, wait and see what it's gonna be. I'll be ready to step in and defend.
SPEAKER_00Oh, you just scruffed the peasant and so in me. No, I just say I was going in. I just say I was going in. You step in, uh the flames flare up immediately. What's your magical defense? Four. Okay. You're immediately ready, your your inner sense kicks off. Danger. Warning, warning. But that's it. It just it slightly adjusts its position so its grinning face is still looking directly at you. Okay. The flames, you can feel the heat, but not not burning. It doesn't do anything else. Okay, come in, lads. It likes you. Okay. Yeah. Okay, can we go around?
SPEAKER_03Can you tell if any of the so all of these weapons and everything else, did you say they were old and decayed and rusted, or does any of them look in good condition? Some of them are, some of them are not. Okay, I'll go up to any of them that look like they are in good condition.
SPEAKER_00Okay, what's your magical defense?
SPEAKER_03It is full. It's fine.
SPEAKER_00So again, it it tracks you as you step in.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_00Can't track a sword. I'd assume. No, it just snaps on the ones that aren't.
SPEAKER_01Third time unlucky.
SPEAKER_03No, I'm not even gonna try, so what's the point? You're staying outside.
SPEAKER_02At the moment, yeah.
SPEAKER_03I'm gonna go up to the weapons rack and pick out is there a sword that looks like a symbol.
SPEAKER_00That's when you get hit with the flames then.
SPEAKER_02Now I'm gonna smack it in the head. Oh, it is. How you got a head?
SPEAKER_00That's good then. Yeah, so flames lash out at you.
SPEAKER_03On the skull.
SPEAKER_00Yes. Uh your your defense is nine enough. Nine. Is it magical defence or no? No, regular defence. Flames wash over you, doing three points of damage.
SPEAKER_02I healed you. As in washover, they fire out of its mouth, does it?
SPEAKER_00Or just uh the flames surrounding it just lash out and coat you with oui. Oh picking up the sword. The sword can't do it. Yeah. Got some arrows left on the door. Okay, I'll say you're key to go for that. You can you can make your shot. I hit. Oh, how much? It's got defense, so no. Okay. Did I see the skull? Uh all I saw was the skull attack Whalen, right? I suppose I should defend my party member. I would have struggled the skull with my sword. Okay. I've made it by six. Okay, so it just the the flames are distracting. You uh as you get closer, it sort of dries rise out, and and you do miss. You're not sure if you missed or if it just shimmered out of the way.
SPEAKER_03It had to split as a defence, didn't it? Because you fired that.
SPEAKER_02If it puts defence against it, it's still got a really good defence, dude. This is the I only fell I only fell by one. I think I made by one, sorry. I only need more than one defence, but I don't know how much it's spent.
SPEAKER_03And so I'm going to grab the sword from the rack and I'm going to use that sword to attack it with. Hopefully it's magical because it is not tarnished at all. No. It doesn't get twatted with its own sword.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you grab hold of that. Actually, it's a morning star. Oh. There's a male or book and two shields that are in particularly good condition. A morning star, it's covered by your nightly training. You don't have to use a sword. I'll pick up the morning star. Yep, you pick it up, it's a bit lighter than you would expect. Okay. You can take a swing. Go for it.
SPEAKER_03Well, uh, normally my attack would have been 16 unless this gives me any additional attack. How much did you make it by?
SPEAKER_00Six. It does have to move. It definitely shifts out of the way. It doesn't want to get hit by that. That would be not conducive to its health at all. Okay. But you do miss. And it's Harry. Are there other weapons like that? You described that there was other weapons. There are other weapons, but they look like they were just stashed here as extras. Okay, so I suppose I'll just have to try again, wouldn't I? There aren't any other weapons like Mark's grab laying around. No. He's definitely got the pick of them. I will just carry on with my sword then. And I would rather not talk about it. No, no, I would rather not talk about it. I'm going to I'm going to I'm going to leave the table for a moment, gentlemen, because that's really pissed me off. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Well, I'll grab my spear and come in and probably help by trying to split his defence.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah, for the listeners, the way uh defence works in this as opposed to armor class, you divide it as as you want to uh amongst your attackers. So yes, ganging up on people does really help. But unfortunately, some monsters get to gang up on the adventurers, so it's always a good idea to help each other out.
SPEAKER_03So it's used at least six defense against me, probably more. This is magical. Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_00I hit by eight. Okay, make an armor bypass roll.
SPEAKER_02It's five. If you're not using the shield, I'm not using the shield. I I never roll a one on a shield.
SPEAKER_00That's true. Okay, so you make a solid hit on it. Yeah. There's a crack of metal on bone, and it's bounced away from you. It goes. Now you've hit it. Didn't do any damage to it, did I? I know. Did you not? I'll do odds and evens.
SPEAKER_01Oh, but you have his sword that he wants back.
SPEAKER_00Odds. It does decide to go for the person that posed it in the eye socket. It's okay. That's not its kink.
SPEAKER_02So have 12 year points, to be fair now.
SPEAKER_00I have eight defense. Your defense is good. You sidestep the splash of flame that lashes out against you. You don't want to get hit by that. No. Or anything, to be fair. Well, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Have you taken any damage? Nope. I'm the only one that's taken damage out of everyone here. Story of every game he's ever played.
SPEAKER_00I know you did take some before though, didn't you? No. Oh no, no, because you destroyed your way out of that one.
SPEAKER_01I did. I absolutely did. We should do an episode on this. I didn't lay it. I just pointed out that he's consistently.
SPEAKER_03Did you see what happened to me when I'm older twenty? Is it his turn, is it? Wayland, you. Okay. Swing.
SPEAKER_00No, no, that's fine. So it's zipping around like this big flaming skull. It's tricky to hit. I mean, you have done it. I'm making it look particularly difficult then. Okay, so let's have another go at that, shall we? Let's see. Is it spinning the fence? Evenly does it look like it's spinning evenly, or is it favouring someone? Because it's not making like parry movements or body language. Okay. We don't know who he's favouring. No.
SPEAKER_03Other does John.
SPEAKER_00So I made that by eight. Nice. Okay, so that that does make a fairly solid crack and spin it around a little.
SPEAKER_02He's not fearful of your morning star by the looks of it, at least, anyway. So no.
SPEAKER_03You shouldn't be. I've can't fucking hit a thing with it.
SPEAKER_02If that's the only thing good damage against it, I'd imagine it's putting all his defense against you. Um okay, I'll try and split it again. I have hit by four.
SPEAKER_00Okay, that does hit. There was a solid crack from Harry there. And again, you eight bummer by bus. That was a really solid shit. Sure, more damage. Didn't seem to do a lot. No, no, well. You're you're fairly certain that you're not affecting it as much as damage in defences.

SPEAKER_00It's supposed to do what it does.

SPEAKER_00I don't think I'm hurting it, yeah. One, two, three, four, five, six. Everyone's dishing out the spankings now, so it's just going to be damage to be fair. It's going to stay on Wayland. Again, this weird gold flame lashes out and doesn't seem to do a lot to you. No, okay.
SPEAKER_03Well you rolled a 10, so it ain't that good, is it? Not bad. That's giving me a bit more competence. It would require 19 attack, then would it to hit you if it'd need a 19 attack, yeah. Okay. It doesn't mean a shit then, does it now? Uh you'll go. My turn. I think I've hit this time. I've rolled I've rolled nine under.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so making on bifos roll. What is it for a morning star? It's D6 plus one for your strength. Okay. Plus one for the weapon.
SPEAKER_03Is a morning star not D6 plus one? It just rings a bell in my eye. Yeah, it's not a slow.
SPEAKER_00That's D and D.

SPEAKER_00Okay. That smashes into it. On the plus side, you've done enough damage to destroy it. On the bad side, everyone in the room has yeah. Washing into you, doing nothing to the warlock. Definitely hitting you.

SPEAKER_00Three points of damage as golden flaming bits of skull embed themselves into your flesh. Three points of damage. That's the first damage you're taking, huh? No, it just fills the chamber and there's bits of this thing stuck in the wall. Oh. I'm down 11.
SPEAKER_02Like the end of Ghostbusters when the Marshmallow man explodes. I'm sort of splitting down.
SPEAKER_00Harry's right pissed off. That's the first piece of damage he's taken.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So do you need another healing? Is that what you're saying? What are you on? Well, I'm I've got three wounds left. Yeah, I will do my last healing on him. See, I told you that was the best use of this my major points.
SPEAKER_03As far as I'm concerned, definitely is. Two. You've rolled five healing on all three.
SPEAKER_02Well, you're not obviously an unbeliever.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. There's a few good items here. Well, let's get those good items. The the mail is I use mail. That would. It will put you in the equivalent of plate. Okay. Is there a changing room here? But without the stealth modifier. Okay, I'm gonna strip them.
SPEAKER_03Well hold on. This is value, but we're keeping things, we're selling for why are we?
SPEAKER_02It'd be useful for me to use it here so we can get it out and then sell it. Okay, I suppose I could trust you to do that. Well, if this is the only thing we get of value, then yeah, we'll sell it. And the two shields are also plus one.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Okay. Uh plus one to ship it. Plus one to your shield, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I'll have a shield.
SPEAKER_00Nothing of any use to an assassin so far. No, it's true. Just notice that. I'm not saying you're playing favourites, John. I'm just saying that people might think that.
SPEAKER_02So I've got equivalent of like says five, yeah?
SPEAKER_03So I've got a shield plus one and a morning star plus one.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And a shield plus two. The assassin could use the morning star, but you do want it. But that plus one you already get with your skill on the weapons you use. So morning star doesn't sound like it's got the finesse that I need. Yeah. He needs magic to get the same effect. Yeah. Well, and and and and I mean I suppose it makes a change from him just buying something. Those days are gone, I'm afraid. Plus, envy is alive and well.
SPEAKER_03No, that life's gone now and it's got no money to go frivolously shopping. It is now, isn't it? Because a plus one shield means a plus is it just plus one to defence or is it a one and a two on a on a DCX as well?
SPEAKER_00I'm pretty sure it only gives the defence which is a bit naft. Isn't it? I don't know. It's better than nothing. I mean it's I think the other way round is pretty much it would be a little bit overpowered when it if it was if you were aware of the case. Okay, so then there's an improved shield parry skill that you get can get later on, which is two in eight. If you want to take that for it, does that sound reasonable? What do you mean by two innate? D8 instead of a D6 one in a D6. Okay, so it gives you the improved parry. That's pretty significant.
SPEAKER_02It gives me a choice then, where I want to shield a lot.
SPEAKER_00It's quite hairy. That's a little bit much. Two in eight, that that's a reasonable buff on that. That that works for a shield.
SPEAKER_03Okay. It's just up my survival chances for sure. Time does fly when you're doing a session, doesn't it, compared with a normal podcast episode. Oh yeah. It really goes off quicker than it does get off quicker.
SPEAKER_00Well, and I think part of it as well is because when we're recording podcasts, they're kind of discreet. Like you do one, then you stop, you have five minutes, you get up, you wander around, and da da da. And I think that kind of drags it out. I know it's worth having, but yeah, this has flown. It is. It can do. As you go up here, this is dusty, disused. This has been in operation for quite some time. Now to the left, looks like it leads to a blank wall. Forward is a door very similar to the the two that you had at the glowing skulls chamber. Uh there are other weapons, by the way, there. They're they're just not anything other than standard. You could outfit uh, you know, quite a few people with the things that are there or sell them. Yeah, I don't think so.
SPEAKER_02Small valuable stuff rather than large, not small valuable stuff.
SPEAKER_03I want to be mobile as well. As soon as we get some stuff that's worth selling, sell it, and I'm off bound south.
SPEAKER_00Yes, softer. I'm saying it would count as treasure. Okay. Weapons do cost a fair bit, but transporting it is.
SPEAKER_03Well, this kind of the logistics of what we do with all of this is not for today, is it? So yeah, okay. And if there's some way of getting shift in it.
SPEAKER_00Harry, if you wish to make a just just run me a D20 and tell me what you get. You want low. I have not got low. I I have got what can what could accurately be described as quite high.
SPEAKER_03You can tell you've played DD a lot because your dice rolls reflect that.
SPEAKER_00We've already had this conversation. I haven't played DD for a year.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but still your dice rolls, you're rolling high. You tell your dice that. You've you've psyched your dice into being high.
SPEAKER_00You can't psych your dice into doing stuff, Mark. They're my dice. And they're his dice. Yeah, they're just look, look again. Hey, we could talk into it. But the first one counts, I assume. Uh yeah. So are there consequences? Uh no, no. You take a look and it's a wall. Well made. Okay. Galadria, after sort of gingerly stepping around the remnants of the skull and staying well behind you guys, because she's looking around. She thinks for a minute, and uh I I think that the main temple might be on the other side of that wall. Why do you think that? Because I know it's somewhere to the north. So where she was as a a kid and a nun, technically nun cultist, they were on the bottom area down here.
SPEAKER_03So secret doors, you're thinking, were you?
SPEAKER_00They were allowed further up. There's this was there was like some living chambers here that she was allowed to if her parents were staying there. So this is all new to her.
SPEAKER_03So we'll look for secret doors. Uh in the wall that she says or around the door. Okay, you can make perception rolls. If I turn my helmet off, can my perception get any higher than fire?
SPEAKER_00Uh it won't get higher. Technically, you should be on a penalty.
SPEAKER_02I've got five and I rolled a six, I'll let you know. I found by one.
SPEAKER_00Someone point me to the wall. How bad? How bad? Which you'll perception well. Which which one? Don't know what you're talking about. So that's a nine. I roll I rolled six. You you you sort of poke and prod and push stab mainly. Yeah. Ash the wall if it's plaster or brick. Galadria looks at it and pushes and moves her hand to the side. Oh yeah. And silently the door she got a quick. Oh, just for the benefit of the listeners, she rolled a one. So yeah, she just thinks of pushing and moving and it slides silently over. Get your treasure sacks out. Here is the dragon. A major shrine, a large chamber of black marble veined with quartz. Which is is expensive as hell. This is where all the money went. On the altar stone, there's a solid onyx idol with eyes of red gold and a leering forked tongue. Now this looks heavy and expensive, but also likely to get you burned unless you're very careful about who you sell this to. I can sell it.
SPEAKER_03No, no, we don't sell that, we destroy it. That's me the idol. No, that's the idol. Are we all on the same same level here? That is not something we're gonna try and get out of here and make money out of. What what does uh Harry think? Do I see Harry looking at it with with jealous eyes?
SPEAKER_00Well but this is the thing, isn't it? If we if if if we are saying that Harry's come from another country, he's not gonna have those same sort of cultural connotations to to to to good and evil items in the same way. So yeah, he just sees dollar dollar bills, yo.
SPEAKER_02Don't be so superstitious. This is just dollar dollar bills, y'all.
SPEAKER_00Cash, cash rules everything around me.

SPEAKER_00If if we find something more valuable, less heavy, and less bulky, I am up for stealing the most effective thing. But if this is the most effective thing, we're stealing it.
SPEAKER_03This is an item of great evil. I think it's probably been used in all of their rituals on the cult. In fact, while this thing exists, perhaps their cult has never really been put to rest. Wow, you it's fantastic that you're helping us prepare our sales pitch already.
SPEAKER_00And the bidding starts uh This is a truly terrible and powerful item. All I'm hearing is we've just added another zero on the end of it.

SPEAKER_03This is the low point of my character's life, so I think it probably it probably has to just go with this now. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And we all know that really he deep down he wants the money. Come on, just just admit it, Wayland. Deep down, deep down it was solid onyx, which is uh a rare in this part of the world. Um, and the the size of it, yeah, it would definitely be worth uh a fair chunk. But I know a priest that can forgive me for this. It doesn't matter. That's good. Yeah. Isn't it weird that the priests of that particular god can forgive themselves for the sins because of the voice that only they can hear? Amazing. Sorry, have to do that every session.

SPEAKER_00Uh so the I mean the walls themselves, the the court. Yeah, that that's the thing. It would be that that could line the walls of uh any noble house. Absolutely. What the hell it's doing in this forgotten hill and how it got there is anyone's guess. But probably not hers. Yeah. She's not telling us everything, is she? She's looking around wide-eyed. Interior decorators. Uh, and it does catch the light wonderfully. The courts of anes reflect that. It's a really lovely effect all around you, like orange fire lighting up. Wow.
SPEAKER_02It would look good in my my house. It would look good in your own.

SPEAKER_01Oh god, when you want to foul a roll, you make it. Well, I made that so this is one of the nice gods. This is one of the nice ones with a benevolent folk tongue. Probably before the the true faith arrived in Okay.
SPEAKER_02I would tell them it's uh it's it's fine, it's harmless, right?
SPEAKER_03It's not though, is it? We can't do anything with this thing. We can't sell it.

SPEAKER_02They need studying, they need to be studied and used and put in some sort of a museum.

SPEAKER_00No. Uh you both step up to to lift it off because it is gonna be heavy. The head snaps round to you. There's like a you can't see the seam, it's so artfully crafted. Uh the tongue lashes out, you take three points of damage from that. And what's your strength? Oh, actually you roll you roll strength on 46 or less.
SPEAKER_0246, you're taking damage regardless.

SPEAKER_01I mean, you could still sell it and get it's resurrected.
SPEAKER_03Your duty. I I'm gonna just leave. I I think whatever whatever's happening to them, like there's not much I can do.
SPEAKER_00Okay, I love this. I love this, right? So here's the thing that you know, look the the wonderful thing about role-playing games is get on you know to take on all of these roles and to get that vicarious glory, and you're like, no, I'm just gonna go home, bruv.
SPEAKER_01What's the woman doing? Is she delighting in this? Yes, no.
SPEAKER_00Oh damn. She she looks horrified at you, you sort of standing.
SPEAKER_03I see that the what is it, a bull or something. It animates. Uh not not animates, it's sort of clicked round. Because I think in if that's something I can kill, I might go back and attack it to defeat it because it's great evil. You're a knight, of course you think it's something you can kill. If it's just an object that animated because they touched it when they shouldn't have done it and it's killed them, that's a different matter. It was a trap, yes. It's a trap, yeah. So in which case, they you know, I'd I'd I'd be concerned enough to perhaps go back and check on their wealth.
SPEAKER_00Uh Galadria's sort of staggered back eyes wide with shock. She wasn't expecting that then. Yeah, right. She's a good actress. Maybe, but you're you're dead, so I am dead. I can still think that. Um you slide. I slide. You're actually unharmed, but you land, you're in complete darkness. Okay. Your your lantern has smashed. Okay. Despite the fact that I've never taken it out of my bag once throughout this entire campaign. Oh, okay. No, no, if it wasn't lit. But I said from the very beginning that I'd be working from his lamp. My apologies. Oh no. You are in darkness. But I have a lamp. Uh you've land you've landed on it, feels like stones. Like big stones. It's not not pleasant. It's gonna be skulls and it's other than it's skulls. So you place your hands down to get some support and they start to sort of give way. Uh you're on piles of bones. Okay. Clean, absolutely devoid of any flesh. Oh shit. And in the darkness, you can hear a slithering. Oh, of course I can. Of course I can. Um, I I need to escape, so I want to have a quick look around and see if I can see you. You can't see shit. If you want to light your light my lamp. But then I'm gonna retreat.
SPEAKER_03Light is coming, because I'll be turning round and I'll swing back round, and I'm standing in the entrance into this huge chamber, and I I don't see Harry, and I see that there's no sign of him and Dorian's difficult. I'll put the I'll put the lantern on the floor and advance in with my sword and shield. I'm gonna go in there and see whether I can save Harry or Gladiana. Pick a square. It just feels very blood swordy. Yeah, yeah. Okay, I'm gonna go this square. Okay, I'll find a body.
SPEAKER_00If you go over to what to his body, what's your evasion? Oh, okay. So as you step across here, there there's a click that you sidestep and you see uh uh a trapdoor flip just below your feet. Okay. You figure that's where it stepped up to get the uh idle, and you see a a slope going down into darkness. And because you've got uh some sort of light and the ambient light provided by the chain.
SPEAKER_03Does the trapdoor reset or does it stay an open?
SPEAKER_00It starts to swing up.
SPEAKER_03I'm gonna assume he's gone down now. And so I'll just go down. Okay.
SPEAKER_00You slide down into the darkness. Okay. You're thumped and tumbled away as you're trying to light your lamp. Make a half reflexes roll. I don't know what half roll is.
SPEAKER_03It's worked out your reflexes are really good now, and he's putting it as halfway. It's still not good enough. Jeez.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so you you sprawl, you was getting your lamp ready, you sprawl, that's gone off into the dark somewhere.
SPEAKER_03Well, I haven't got my lamp with me, so I hope that's you, Harry.
SPEAKER_00Oh no, yeah, it it is me, Waylon. It is me. I'm gonna try and find my lamp. I'm like feeling around in all the skull's eye sockets. Oh boy. Oh boy. I've never had this happen quite this badly before. This is um oh well, at least we've got one claim to find this is a first for me. I don't want to jinx it, but I've never actually had a TPK. I've never been involved in one. No, also one's not happening. All the jokes we make about dual ability to TPK everyone you're playing with, and it's never actually been in so I've died billions of times, but I've never been in a session where every member of the party has died. That's never happened.
SPEAKER_03Well, it's about to it's a good start on the uh on our live plays, isn't it?
SPEAKER_00Glad I did my first with you guys, yeah. It's been a pleasure. So you can hear crunching of something large and possibly amorphous, because you don't get to use that word very often, in the darkness don't coming towards you. I have bad news for you. That is that is I was I was hoping it was you. Fuck when you feel something on your leg. Is there something you need to tell tell each other before you die?
SPEAKER_03So it often works out like that between me and Barry. We're gonna die together here. Oh bless you.
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna set a fire. Okay, with my tinderbox and anything that I can find. I reckon bones burn, not at the temperature you can make, and you do not want the smell of that in an enclosed space. I just want to see what's going on. And I also I want to see I want to see what's going on though.
SPEAKER_03I have a feeling I could have done this entire scenario blindfolded and not been at a disadvantage.
SPEAKER_00Something slithers over you. It doesn't it it's cold and jelly-like, and it's just started to slither over you. Oh, if you've got a trigger, oh nice. Oh, I can work, I can work with this. I found his gag reflex and not in a good way. It doesn't hurt, but there's definitely something enveloping the bottom of your leg. I'm gonna try and brush it off. Okay, now you're touching something rubbery and cold. Oh, so grim. It's not grim and perilous, it's just fucking grim. Oh, it's disgusting. I don't like it. I'm really trying to brush it off. I really don't like it. There's no light source. You don't know what's going on. You can hear stuff. Okay. Uh you in your dying throne. You can't do anything about that. I'll get heroic death. I will let you have a you've got what one magic point left. No, we've got none. Oh, okay. You you you get shit then. No, okay. So you see Galadriel's. She does approach the the idol. She makes a genuflection of And reaches up for it trying to strain and she grabs it and scuttles off. She never but she can't do anything about you guys, so she's getting on the getting's good. You can tell yourself out all you like, but have a chat about it. You'll flail around in the darkness, you'll probably hit each other as much as anything else. Or the the amorphous form is surprisingly resilient to your your efforts. You feel impact. The cold envelops you there is a biting sensation, and your pain-filled screams echo through the chamber, and the last thing you hear is the slug-like noises as you're enveloped. That's okay. I thought that you were going to say the last thing that I heard was wailing. That's no way to go. Only because this thing has enveloped you and filled your ears, and as you try your final screams, so it slides in and you're unfowered. So I have I have lost I've lost my TPK virginity. Okay.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I'm glad to have been a part of it. Yeah, no, well, I should have just gone home like I thought I was gonna just walk straight out of here.
SPEAKER_00Then we wouldn't have had the TPK.
SPEAKER_02That's all good.
SPEAKER_00And the good news is if anyone does play this one, they still don't know what the hell it is, other than darkness, because you didn't see darkness. We didn't get them for torch lit, yeah. Nice, nice. We fucked that up then, didn't we? What the hell? Actually, no, it's just the one time I got lucky rolls was those it's right at the end. Well, you saw the rolls, they were okay. And this and this is what we talk about, isn't it? Everyone talks about uh and and I and I get it, you know, that it's a game of storytelling, but like not all stories end happily. Like this is it is as much of a story as glory and triumph is.
SPEAKER_03And I like that about these old school systems, that the there is that ability to fuck out one role immediately.
SPEAKER_00And again, and I know that all I can say is your s your sprogs absolutely rinse this by the way.
SPEAKER_03This is this is proper old school gaming and with a modern twist, I think, because it's not as dangerous as some old school games.
SPEAKER_00You've encountered exactly maybe half of what's there. There's far more to do, it could have gone on for for longer, but yeah, we've what we've got there is an experience of what Dragon Wars is about.
SPEAKER_03It's fun.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I like Dragon War. I like the simplicity of the system, I like the sheet as well. The sheet's wicked, it's just it it it's one-sided, everything fits on there. Yeah, I enjoyed it. It's been fun. So it's a thing that was lacking for this. The the reason I I ran this uh was because it's perfect for a one-shot, nice little dungeon cool, self-contained story. The the the thing that's really good about Dragon War is, like I said, about most of the stuff that I really enjoy is the world building. They've got the cultural settings, they've got some broad-ranging NPCs, it can get as political as you want. So that that was absolutely missing from this.
SPEAKER_03But you can still tell that you had that that background to it, you know. The world building was there. So I think I I felt it was beneath the surface. Yeah, yeah. You presented a knife drop. Yeah, it was there, you know, that that that's all important, I think, and all part of playing Dragon Voice. Whereas you called it a dungeon crawl, but I remember old school DD dungeon crawls, this doesn't feel the same as there's more flavour to it, there's more character there, ecosystem.
SPEAKER_00It helps I I know about the the culture and that what I knew what the idol represented and that it's how it's presented and the inside of the city.
SPEAKER_02Whereas old school DD dungeons might have been very eclectic mix of stuff just to challenge you this was cohesive.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and I I know this is just a one-shot, but this could easily just develop into something far more. This this these people are intriguing me. I'd like to know more about them, whether they're disease, what they're doing.
SPEAKER_00I want to know, I want to know what happened to the guys in the pub. That's true. They have to go they have to go off and have another fucking adventure because we stole their one.
SPEAKER_03But they were like a plot device to get us in. I assume they were gonna be treasure.
SPEAKER_02Potentially, as a follow-on, you could be that group of adventurers and triggering next time and picking up the pieces.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's done. There are some skeleton bones on the floor. That is a brilliant idea, though, isn't it?
SPEAKER_03If you wanted to run another session, John, we'd just take the other lot and come and find the dead bodies, but you might come and make it.
SPEAKER_00So one of what one of the people one of my friends from our club recommended a book to me and I haven't started it yet, but it's called NPCs. And it is literally the story of what happens to non-playing characters after adventurers have gone through. And I was like, okay, that sounds like it's gonna be fun. I ordered it on Amazon, I haven't started it yet. There's a nice little bit of blurb about this particular scenario. It was it was from White Dwarf back in the day before it was just an advert for uh for game shop. Uh written by Dave under the pseudonym Liz Fletcher. No way. Really? You said he had a number of those. I just want to go off on a tangent because I've been sitting here with John's dice. Right, so Don John, this is a D7, yeah? Yep. That's a D7. Yep. That's a D3. Yep. That's a D that's a D emotion. Yep. There's a D5. Well, no, no, no, but that's a D emotion. Yep. For the listeners, this has got kind of smiley face, frowny face. And this is a D compass. Fucking weirdo. There's more. And uh there's uh a weird-shaped D8.
SPEAKER_03The round d6, I remember that, but yeah.
SPEAKER_00Weird shaped D. Is that D. I love the D4. Oh no, the D5, but D7, I really like it. It's very satisfying. It's like the numbers are on the point rather than the face. I've never seen the D7. I thought he was joking with the advanced. It's the the point up rather than all around the base. Uh they're all easily bought now, but they used to be quite tricky. I think that's the D11. And this is what we said to Dave in the interview.
SPEAKER_03Don't worry. We love our dice, yeah. Doesn't have enough.
SPEAKER_00I've got a D24, a D30, a D50. And a D100 back home, but that is an absolute bugger to roll because it just does not stop.
SPEAKER_03Oh, have you well Barry? Yeah, you were gonna bring your new dice. You bought a dragomet, didn't you? You got it.
SPEAKER_00Those dice are so fucking beautiful. It's the most amount of money I've ever spent on a dice. By a long way. Wow. It's the most amount of money I've ever spent on a dice. But yeah, they're shaped like ornate bullets, and they their case is like a magazine clip from a gun. Brilliant. And yeah, they're just they're they're beautiful, they're beautiful, they're beautiful.
SPEAKER_0345 quid, which actually And in the middle of these, um, this is being released on our RPG Prox Plus service. We would have done our interview with Dave and put that out as well, Dave Morris. And uh Yeah, it makes sense to link put it in put it in the middle, yeah. And um, yeah, so you've hopefully by the end of this you've all got a good idea of what this system can offer you. And it we're just scratching the surface. There's so much to it. Yeah, there's a lot more. In the pre-written scenarios, just fantastic. And to think that just come from a a White Dwarf magazine back in the day when it was released. Yeah. And the quality of that that scenario in itself just speaks volumes of everything else.
SPEAKER_00And then the other favourite was uh the box of old bones.
SPEAKER_03Yes. Well, we did have an idea because Dave uh mentioned that that would work well in a heist game, didn't he? But is that what's because Stephen, you're thinking of uh running what's Or Blaze of the Duck, yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Definitely keen to run a one or one shot of that.
SPEAKER_00And then there was also an additional expansion to that. Yeah, I've done a look at that one that works really well. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, send send us a link to it and I'll have to do it.
SPEAKER_00It goes into the whole demonology thing, which he writes really well and he's done for uh I think it was Tyrandor.
SPEAKER_03Um Yeah, so yeah, check that out and maybe run that with Blaze in the Dark. So we'll be a nice Yeah, you get to kill me. I've never run that is Blaze in the Dark, yeah, but it's like be fresh for everyone, wouldn't it? Yeah, it'll be coming later this year. And we've got the Lishmaster live play coming up next. Actually that'll be um coming up soon on the RPG Blokes Plus as well. And that's gonna be video recording. But yeah, you know, just pay our bills for us, that's all we're after. Yeah. Not a lot, but yeah, the subscriptions and bits and pieces, and let's try and get this cost neutral at the very least.
