I'm on. Alright, so I've got this recording. Hello. All right, and good luck with your stats. You're bound to do better than mine. So I'm off. I'll leave you two to finish off the character and I look forward to seeing how bad it is in about half an hour's time.
SPEAKER_04He's gone.
SPEAKER_02Not even a goodbye, though.
SPEAKER_04It's suddenly imploded.
SPEAKER_02It's set in 1940s, isn't it? 1950s.
SPEAKER_04No, 1921, this particular scenario is set, but generally Cthulhu is 20.
SPEAKER_01In America?
SPEAKER_04Uh no. This scenario will be set in Peru, South America. Peru. Yes. Peru, South America. There is kind of like a bit of blurb for this scenario. I can read you. But first off, what you want to do is you want to roll your stats. That's what it tells you to do. The first thing to do for a Cthulhu character is generate statistics. So we shall do that first off. So you've got that character. Luckily enough, I think that's form fillable, and it works out your halves and fifths value. Okay. So basically, a calculator is probably not a bad idea for this character generation because you're going to have to do a lot of timesing. You've got one at hand.
SPEAKER_02I've got one on the cooper. There we go.
SPEAKER_04The stats are pretty much done on 3d6, but then you multiply by five. So to get a percentage. So first things first is go for your stats. So the first stat to generate would be your strength. And for strength, you roll 3d6 and multiply it by five. Nine. So you have nine strengths.
SPEAKER_02Okay, and then what do I do with that?
SPEAKER_04Then insert it in strength, the the first box in strength. Brilliant. And that should then it splits it down to a half value and a fifth value. Has it done that? Okay, so basically a half if you're uh your half value of your strength means you've done a hard success. And a fifth means you've done the extreme success when I'm rolling a d hundred. So what's nine times five?
SPEAKER_02Nine times five, that'll be 45.
SPEAKER_04Okay, so put 45 in strength.
SPEAKER_0245 in strength.
SPEAKER_04Yes, that's what you've got. So each one has to be a percentage, not what you roll. Nine. So you've got to multiply it by five. Okay, yeah, I got it. Yeah, I'm with it. I'm with you. Yeah, so you know you have a percentage. So half of that will be a hard success. If you're doing something that's quite difficult, I might say you need a hard success to pass, so you need half of that, and that you might need an extreme success, then you will that's what you'd roll. So it's just sliding scale. So when you're opposing people, as well if they rolled hard successes or normal successes, depends how well you do against them. So obviously, yeah, in this case, higher stat the better. But it's all needed. Okay, so it's your strength. Not particularly the most strongest person in the world, but not terrible. Con, it's 3d6 multiplied by five once more.
SPEAKER_0212. So five times 12 would be 60. 60. Yep.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I'm rubbish and maths. Well, we all come across this, but yeah. Yeah, next one. Next one is uh second. That's con is Dex next. Yeah. Uh and then do 12 again. Dex is 3d6, multiply by 5, yeah. 16, yeah, normal. Number 60, is it?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, 12, yeah.
SPEAKER_04That's good. What's the next one on that sheet?
SPEAKER_02Intelligence.
SPEAKER_04Intelligence is done slightly differently. It is 2d6 plus 6 times 5. So you already start with a six, roll 2d5.
SPEAKER_02Add six is 11.
SPEAKER_04Yep, so times by 5 is 55.
SPEAKER_0255, average. I'm average so far.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, average is 50, so anything you got above 50 is above average. And 90 is the maximum, which is kind of like top of human capacity. So size is the same, 2d6 and add a six.
SPEAKER_02Uh so seven and six is thirteen, thirteen times five. Yep.
SPEAKER_04Next one.
SPEAKER_02The big one, the power.
SPEAKER_04Yes, it's that's three d6 multiplied by five.
SPEAKER_02Fifteen!
SPEAKER_04Oh, that's good. That's a good one. Uh so that's 15. 75. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Outstanding.
SPEAKER_04Good. So that will also be your start insanity. Yeah. Uh, which is Max and there. So you can put that in the MAXAN box if you'd like. Oh, but you might, but you might change it, it's up to you. I'm not sure you will change that stat around, but there is an option, so don't worry about that.
SPEAKER_02Unless they're all in 18 somewhere, and I won't be going anywhere.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, this is a good one to have. What's next? Appearance? Appearance is 3d6 multiplied by five.
SPEAKER_02Eight. Five eight, forty. Forty below average.
unknownYep.
SPEAKER_02So you need to appearance do.
SPEAKER_04Appearance is your measure of your physical attractiveness. Uh and your charm, charming, same as any other thing, but it's yeah, it's just how you look, how you come across.
SPEAKER_02Education.
SPEAKER_04That's a 2d6 plus sixer.
SPEAKER_02So it's eight and six, fourteen.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that's pretty good.
SPEAKER_02Times five.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, 14 times five. What's that one?
SPEAKER_0270.
SPEAKER_04Okay. Alright, there's only one stat there that's positively boring. Okay, also there is another stat that might be not there. You've got to roll your luck stat. Where's that put on here? Is there luck? Uh yes, okay, so luck. So you're 3d6 times five for luck.
SPEAKER_02Fourteen? That's good.
SPEAKER_04Seventeen. Yep. Okay, uh, so that's good. So lucky is good. Luck is as you would expect, but you can spend luck points to move dice results around, which is the main point of luck. Also, occasionally you might have to make luck rolls to see you know whether you land on say soft or sort of land or say hard, or if you find a bit of equipment that you're looking for. So lucky is generally used ad hoc, but is um it is an important one. So 70 is great, you know. Um, okay, so that is all your stats. You can swap one for one if you'd like. Uh no, you probably don't need to, they're pretty good. Um next up, then what you want to do is work out some of this other stuff. Your age of your character, you can decide at this point in time before you choose your profession. How old would you like your character to be?
SPEAKER_02I was gonna base it on my profession. I see him as being like a bit of a bookworm.
SPEAKER_04So, like an Okay, so you're looking more of an academic character, that's fine. Um what sort of age would he be? Would it be on the old older side?
SPEAKER_02In the 40s?
SPEAKER_04According to this, you don't have to take it, you could be like a fit 40-year-old. Yeah, uh, but you could either you can make improvement checks on education, which means your education might improve, but to do so, you would have to deduct five points from strength con ordex and reduce appearance by five.
SPEAKER_02Right, and that and what and what does that do in regards to education?
SPEAKER_04If you roll you roll d100, if you roll over your education, you get to improve it by d10. So you do that twice, so one at a time.
SPEAKER_02No, no, that's too that's too much of a sacrifice, that is. I'll be I'll be 32.
SPEAKER_04You can be 40. I you I say you don't have to take those downsides. You can be um like a young, you can want to be 40, you can be 40, but I'll just give you the average, uh, just a single improvement check for education, which is pretty much a generic, what everyone would get. So you can be 40, but you just be a lecturer or a librarian saying 32 will do.
SPEAKER_02I'll go 32.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, okay, that will just give you an improvement check for education. So basically, you're all D100 and try and get over your education score.
SPEAKER_02So depending on your age, depends on what you get.
SPEAKER_04Yes. So this chart, there's an age chart here. Basically, the older you are, your stats might decrease, but the more education you might have. Okay, so he's quite a young an academic, he wouldn't.
SPEAKER_02A young professor, wouldn't he? There must be.
SPEAKER_04Could be, yeah. I mean, you could have, you could be, yeah, absolutely.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_04I mean, Professor Jones from um in Jan Jones, I'm not sure how old he was in that, but in his 30s, probably. Okay, so make an improvement check on education. So roll d hundred and try and get over your education score. Try and get o over it? Over it, yeah. So basically the better you are at something, the least likely it's going to improve.
SPEAKER_02So I need to get over 70.
SPEAKER_04Yes. And if you do, you get an extra d10 on it.
SPEAKER_0223.
SPEAKER_04Go on, I'll give you the D10 improvement. So you can your education goes up by D10. So rolling on one D10. So three. So you have 73 education now. Okay, there you go. Lovely. I think you are the most educated one there in the party, as far as I know. Uh, next, uh, we'll see if you have a damage bonus. Uh add your strength and size together and let us know what it what it is.
SPEAKER_02110.
SPEAKER_04That gives you no. So your damage bonuses is none and your build is zero.
SPEAKER_02Yep, got their both zeros anyway, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so basically, if you got high, you'd get some damage bonus to add on to your melee attacks. If you were too weak, you'd minus some points of damage. Uh so you're pretty average with that, that's no problem. Uh hit points is con and size added together, but divided by 10.
SPEAKER_02So that's 125 divided by 10 is 12.5.
SPEAKER_04So it's 12. You round down. Yeah. So you have 12 hit points. Okay, your movement rate, which is a weirdly complicated uh formula. Right. Yeah. First off, then if both decks and strength are less than size, are both your strength and decks less than your size? Yes. Okay, then you have a movement of seven. That's quite easy.
SPEAKER_02Okay, there you go. Yeah. Okay, so you're quite. And both my butt, my strength is 45, my decks is 60, so yes.
SPEAKER_04So they're less than your size.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_04So you have a movement of seven, which is the lowest movement. Do you have seven, eight, or nine?
SPEAKER_03Yep.
SPEAKER_04And if you're too old, you get minuses of movement. Okay. Right. Next is to determine your occupation. Um obviously I have a list I can send you of occupations, or do you have something in mind? Um, well, I was thinking lecturer. Oh, would okay. Um, I'll tell you what's already in the party. I think Mark has an archaeologist. Ah, what we've yeah, go on. He would have me. Yeah, but I think he's a young postgraduate archaeologist. I think he's just graduated. Uh Barry has an outdoorsman from the UK. Uh so a woodsman type dude. Uh John has an explorer. So he's currently in the sort of like region where they're okay.
SPEAKER_02So, yeah, I want to be an academic.
SPEAKER_04So, like a I will tell you. I will, yeah. Yeah, it would work. Academic will work well. Uh Anthropologist.
SPEAKER_02I'll be an anthropologist.
SPEAKER_04So basically, your character would have picked up on this knowledge through maybe pamphlets that have been handed around the um the universities. And I'll tell you what the um the initial handout is. You would have come across this in some sort of journal somewhere or paper that you like to read. And it says, search for an ancient pyramid in Peru. Explorer plans expedition to discover the sites of a lost civilization. Lima, January 12, it's dated. Explorer Augustus Larkin is planning an expedition to the southern highlands of Peru, where he hopes to identify the sites of a pyramid long forgotten by history. Uh following the discovery of a number of gold artifacts in the region, Larkin believes that he has found the evidence that will lead him to their source. He is currently in Lima, planning the expedition and is recruiting companions and possible backers. So you would have responded positively to that. Uh would yeah? Whereabouts are you from, do you think, your your young professor?
SPEAKER_02Oh, it's got to be from England.
SPEAKER_04You can be from England, yeah. So so what's what's university stroke? So you would be at Ox Oxford, can I? Yeah. Okay, that's not a problem. So your profession will basically give you a list of starting skills that you can spend your your starting um skill points on, but I'll I'll tell you what they are based on the career. Okay, professors, academics employed by colleges and universities. Uh larger corporations might employ such academics for research and product development. Um so yeah, you would have a PhD in anthropology, you say?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Okay, so so you want to put this, you don't have to spend points in these skills, but the skills that you come with the professor, um so maybe write these down somewhere and mark them down is library use. Right, library use, yeah. I'm not sure if you can mark it somewhere. Um you get to pick a language of your choice.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_04English.
SPEAKER_02Just what other than my native.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so you get other language, which can be anything, but you also get English.
SPEAKER_02Just uh they speak Spanish. Spanish. Spanish it is then.
SPEAKER_04So you can uh own language, which is in will be English.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_04You have psychology.
SPEAKER_02Psychology?
SPEAKER_04Yep, and you can pick any four other skills uh as your academic specialities.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_04So have a look at that list and see what would make sense for an anthropologist. Uh yeah.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Would be an intelligent one.
SPEAKER_04Uh I suppose you've got well, anthropology, you have psychology already, aren't you? If you're sort of studying peoples and history. It can be. It can be, but would that be part because you have additional skills as private, sort of like a personal interest skills that you could spend. But would would a cult be part of your profession of anthropology? Maybe it would. Maybe you have studied cultures with um certain certain beliefs. That's I I could believe that if that's something that would be in your lectures. Remember picking three? Uh four. Four. So four academic-based skills, really.
SPEAKER_02Anthropology is one of them. There we go, I've got to have that one.
SPEAKER_04Oh, I would certainly uh insist on having anthropology, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, not far taught, no firearms.
SPEAKER_04Natural world, you might know about that.
SPEAKER_02I think yeah, that'd be a good one.
SPEAKER_04Again, you don't have to spend points in these, they're just ones that you have in your career as such.
SPEAKER_02So I've done so in total, I should have how many? Eight.
SPEAKER_04So it's four, five, six, seven, eight, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Two, yeah, three, four, five, six, seven. Do they speak any other languages there?
SPEAKER_04Um there's native languages of Peru. I mean, there's like um old kind of um Aboriginal languages of the natives, kind of like Spanish or native um there are there is a name for it. I can't remember what it is, the top of my head. I think John had it on his character, but yeah, you can put just put native Peruvian. Otherwise, there's a science different sciences you maybe could have picked up. I don't know what would be apparently it's called biology, maybe a science or as an option, but it's up to you. Okay, yeah, a native language is fine.
SPEAKER_02Well, I'm trying to think if there's anything law, wouldn't be law, wouldn't be listen. Listen, listen to his students, I guess.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, you could do a bit of a stuff. Yeah, I'm I'm okay. I'm quite flexible with it, but yeah, just like it vaguely makes sense. I don't think firearms were professionals make much sense.
SPEAKER_02Or logic or repair or medicine or anything like that.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Appraise, maybe you might look at ancient artifacts, maybe.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'll go with that. Yeah, looking at artifacts and looking at them. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Or even archae, a little bit in archaeology, maybe is up to you, but okay, so long as you've got the eight.
SPEAKER_03Yep.
SPEAKER_04As you're as a professor. Okay, so you have your education multiplied by four to split between these skills.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_04This is why you need a calculator. But you can't put anything more than a 75, or you can't have a total of 75 in any in any skill. You notice that some skills have a starting value.
SPEAKER_02I think I'm gonna be really good at a cult. I know what's going on in this. I'm gonna be really good at cult. I've got put 50 in pol anthropology, 50 in library use.
SPEAKER_04Um put 50 in anthropology, you uh gives you 51. Yeah?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah. Just looking at the anthropologist who googled it, and it says it explores human biology and evolutionary history and languages and culture. So it's up to you where you want to specialise. So you would might be specialise more on the cultural side of it. Yeah, culture. The law of it, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Bizarre, I'm running out of points. Um, running out of things to put points into, Steve, as weird as it sounds. Well, 75 is the maximum, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Minus anthropology, thing anthropologists, maybe max that out. It's up to you.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I am minus 24. So that goes up to 70.
SPEAKER_04You are well educated men.
SPEAKER_0228 points left. I'll go into natural world, I think. So college and up ten in each.
SPEAKER_04Nice. Okay, so they are your professional skills, your occupational skills. Um, next uh you will get some personal interest skills. Personal interests. So basically, they're the skill points that you on your spare time you have looked to improve yourself on. Uh and let's just double check how you work that one out. Is intelligence multiplied by two? Oh, okay, right, okay. And there you can put those into any skills. That includes your your ones that you've already put in.
SPEAKER_02147. Really? Yeah, if you want to. Up to a maximum of what? 75. Oh, right, okay. So you can't go any higher than 75. Not to begin with. Wait a minute, just a question. If I put 75 in library use and add 20 to it, does it go up to 95?
SPEAKER_04No.
SPEAKER_02I've done this wrong.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so the maximum you can put into that with a 20 already, uh, is 55.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'm on it, I'm on it, I'm on it, I'm on it.
SPEAKER_04Get that extra back, spend it somewhere else. So, yeah, no skill can be more than 75 to begin with. That includes the the basic you get with it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, okay, right. So 146 to go where I like to see what you like, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Within reason, I suppose. I mean, I I'm open to what you what you're doing. I mean, what sort of things would he look into in his spare time? Um, I suppose we're looking at meta values, nobody really put anything in first aid, I don't think. Uh brawl, nobody can really brawl. Is he slightly does he go to the gym in his spare time? Is he is he a pugilist? Uh is it is he a track and field kind of guy? Does he like to throw stuff? Uh dodge is also an option to put stuff in. Uh it starts off at half decks, though, so again.
SPEAKER_02I think I like that idea. He's like good at spotting things and finding things. Yeah. Looking for like you know, artifacts, that might be good. I think swim. I like the idea of swim.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, swimming is never a bad idea. More than the basic 20. Um, it's seen if you've got over 50% in the skill, you're pretty capable with it. Um if you're trying to make a skill check with a skill that's under 50, the chances of botching is higher.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_04Like a 96 to 100. But if you go over 50, it's just 100.
SPEAKER_02Okay, so we put another, let's put a 20 in swimming, or 30 then, so you have to go to 50.
SPEAKER_0450, you'd be a capable swimmer, yeah. And your other language. I mean, don't necessarily have to be brilliant. No, you'd be able to speak to speaks fluently. You're looking at 50% again to get you kind of pretty decent Spanish. Anything less than that will be, you know, sliding scow to um Seba Buffavor.
SPEAKER_02Two beers!
SPEAKER_04Scotch yours.
SPEAKER_02Scout ya. Put in some history, a bit of history buff. There you go, done.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so you put some of your personal interest points in Spanish, did you?
SPEAKER_02Yes, I put about 50 points into Spanish and 50 points into history.
SPEAKER_04Okay. Yeah, make sure you're happy with what you've got. Uh so some of your skill points spent. Very good. Um, oh shit. Sorry, I'm gonna put a spanner in the works here. Uh, credit rating. You had to put something credit rating, which for some reason I didn't realise what it was. Give me a second, Professor. Okay, your credit rating starts. You can be between anything between 20 and 70. You have to put at least 20 in it to be a professor, sorry. All right, okay, so I've got to take 20 off points or something. Yeah, it's well, but yeah, take 20 off. So if unless you want more credit rating. I mean, 20 is you you know, you you're getting by with 20, 70, you're kind of quite rich.
SPEAKER_02Um well, so basically what I've done whilst we're chatting is I've looked up 1920s famous anthropologists, and there's a guy called Edward Burnett Taylor. He was a famous anthropologist. So I am Geoffrey Burnett Taylor. Um I reckon, I reckon we would he be wealthy? I don't know.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, again, you have to free up the points for that, but you have to free up at least 20. I mean, that's a minimum you can be to be a professor. Unless you can argue with me, you're because I'm sort of destitute professor, but put 10 in there, that frees up 60. But obviously, there is promise of gold from this uh this expedition, so won't you is he rich? Does it does he need the money?
SPEAKER_02I'll put 20 in there, I'll put that down to 35. There you go. I've got 70 70 points now. And where do I put that? Where do I put in credit? Is it a skill?
SPEAKER_04Maybe a skill, yeah. Credit rating. So basically, you played the through before, it's kind of generally money's done on credit rating, or we're not gonna worry too much. You'll have some money in your pocket, but any large expenditures, you'd have to make credit rating roles to see uh whether you get away with it. Not really be worried about the money, day-to-day cash. It's kind of you get by, but if you want to buy a tank or something, you might need a credit rating. Yeah. Okay. Uh next, you've got to think about your backstory. Obviously, you can think about that in spare time, but uh come up with some sort of idea of where he's come from. It doesn't be major, where he's come from and why he's going to the expedition, maybe. It's kind of just an idea of who you are.
SPEAKER_02I've got one or two ideas. One, daddy's paid for the uh the the thing to get me into anthropology, so Edward Burnett Taylor. Or yeah, in Oxford, yeah, specifically actually. Or or he's done it to prove his father that he is he is an anthropologist.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah, you can be proven badly. I think um yeah, I think Mark had his father as his one of his main contacts. But okay, well, bear that in mind as we go on to the next point. Um, obviously, you can flesh that out. Um, then if the next sheet down, I think if everything's done on that, we're looking at your got an idea for your ideology and beliefs. Um is that there? Yeah, so you've got your personal description. Um I'll let you fill that out. And obviously, when we play the game, you can introduce your characters and see what it looks like, and if there's anything particularly, you know, he has scars, one eye, limps, one leg. I don't know, but he's probably a fit guy. Um, did you pick any fighting skills or no? I chose not to. Excellent. I don't know, I just wonders. You just rely on everyone else. You know, you're not there for the um the muscle, obviously, you're there for the uh for the um intelligence.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, an outdoorsman for that.
SPEAKER_04Let him do the muscle in. Exactly. You've got to explore an outdoorsman. Okay, so you ideology beliefs. Um, you can note something there. What sort of thing would he believe in?
SPEAKER_02He's quite clearly cult. Yeah, so I think he'll believe he'd believe in uh you know ancient mythology. So the idea that the Incas and uh and and these these Peruvian statues and all that sort of stuff obviously came from somewhere.
SPEAKER_04You believe in the esoteric like spiritualism, tarot, astrology, you kinda astrology, yeah.
SPEAKER_02He believes he believes that there was definitely something going on way back in the Incas time, and that's why we've gone to Peru.
SPEAKER_04Exactly. Yeah, the Incas, uh especially their pyramids uh lost in the Andes Mountains is just a source of information and gold, obviously, but information, particularly for you, that would be invaluable to the university. But I can't put your ideology beliefs that you're kind of into the um you believe in the esoteric, uh, believe in astrology and that sort of thing. This sort of thing just gives you an idea of you know when you're playing your character. Uh what else is there? Significant people, yes. Who is your significant people? These more for me as a DM. So when I make you insane or or give you bad nightmares, these sort of things I can use against you. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Your significant person. Your father's yeah, yeah, I'd definitely be one of the things. So, your father, you've got his name. You write you write the name of your father now. Yeah. I have, one minute. His name was where was it? Edward Burnett Taylor. There you go. Edward Burnett Taylor. We'll get a picture of him at some stage. And obviously, it's so yeah, some sort of artwork for your character in the interim would be nice as well.
SPEAKER_02How about some sort of uh influential headmaster that got him going? So if you want more than one, it's up to you. You're significant people. Uh I'm okay with that. Oxford. I wonder who was running Oxford in the 1920s. Dean Oxford 1920s. Dean 1921, to be precise, if you really wish to be. Thomas Banks Strong. Good name.
SPEAKER_04That does sound good.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_04I bet he's good at rowing.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Strong, there you go.
SPEAKER_04So he would be a significant person to you as well.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. So he'd be, he'd be, like, obviously he would know of my father, and I found out about this Peruvian trip, and he's gone, well, you know, for the for the university, off you go. There you go.
SPEAKER_04The good name of Oxford goes with you, sir.
SPEAKER_02He does, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Um treasured possession then. Is there something that you may have received uh that would be quite valuable to you that you would keep up on your person? Or take with you to Peru. Any mementos, uh something given to you by your father? Uh a scroll of something from the university? What what sort of thing would you think would be treasure possessed? Just so I could use it against your lesson.
SPEAKER_02I think I'm thinking like a pocket watch is what I'm thinking.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_02Uh with a little picture inside or no, just um so a pocket watch with like a message in it of uh from his father.
SPEAKER_04Okay. Would he be married?
SPEAKER_02Or would he is it a bachelor? Yeah, bachelor, yeah. No time for women when you're uh studying.
SPEAKER_04That is very true. Absolutely. Stiff up lip and all. Then note down your pocket watch. Obviously, you can flesh all this out into a black story, uh, that's not a problem. Uh meaningful locations. Uh what is in I've got a feeling I might I might know where the university are. Box for Juni, your seat of learning, uh, is is cool. What sort of person are you? Are you generous? Good with animals, a dreamer, hedonist, gambler? Is that you've got you got a secret? Are you above board? Are you everything as it seems with you? Or have you uh some sort of dirty advice that you may keep secret from people?
SPEAKER_02I say he's a gentleman to the point of the gentleman. Yeah, so like he will he will let the lady get off the boat first.
SPEAKER_04He will gentlemen, the British Empire.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_04Very good, very good, sir. Yes, okay. So you uh so you're a gentleman to a to a fault as such. So you're not gonna be able to do that.
SPEAKER_02Without a doubt. So no no hitting of ladies, none of that. So if I get attacked by a female demon, fuck knows what he's gonna do.
SPEAKER_04So I know your weakness, this is all your weaknesses.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I know basically things to beat me with, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Uh you don't have any injuries and scars unless you want some to begin with. Um phobias and manias, you don't start with any unless you want to. Uh you don't have any arcane tones uh in Council of Strange Analysis as yet. So yeah, I'm spending level then. Okay, yes, I can tell you generally what that is. Uh what is your credit rating? 70. 70. 70. Wow, you went with the top one. Yeah. Okay, you are wealthy. Uh I'm a gentleman. Yes, indeed, indeed you are. A level of wealth that falls luxury and comfort, my dear friend. Good. Uh substantial residence, perhaps some uh domestic help too, like a butler, housekeeper, a cleaner, gardener, or all four. Very good, very good. Uh you possibly have a second home in the Chilterns or whatever it is.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, in the Cotswolds.
SPEAKER_04Cotswolds, that's it, yes. Uh and you stay in very expensive hotels and you generally travel first class. Uh so yeah, you would have probably booked your own passage to Peru at the very height of uh the steamers that go across the Atlantic there.
SPEAKER_02And uh the Titanic tickets are coming off of sale soon, I might get one of them.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I already sunk in 1912, unfortunately. You can go find it, yeah. Exactly. That probably might put you on edge. Um yeah, okay, so you you're used to the very best. Okay, let me probably so for that sort of credit rating. You have your cash, so what you would have on you, just as a general rule, would be your credit rating multiplied by five.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah. Got a load of cash. I'm not gonna tell the common, I'm not gonna tell the commonest.
SPEAKER_04And this would be in dollars or pounds, probably sterling.
SPEAKER_02350.
SPEAKER_04So that's the sort of cash you would have on your person as a loose change. Your assets are worth your credit rating multiplied by five hundred. Right. Yeah. So they're your assets.
SPEAKER_0235,000.
SPEAKER_04So that's what you own back in Oxford as a professor with daddy's cash. Um, obviously, Oxford professors pay wealth as well.
SPEAKER_03Oh well yeah.
SPEAKER_04Especially ones with your uh your connections and time.
SPEAKER_02My dad is telling me that I've put too much in it, but it's done now. I like this idea.
SPEAKER_04Well, it shapes the character in a very particular way, and you're not in it for the money, you're in it for certainly for the prestige, and be able to write some sort of paper for Oxford University about the um the lost income pyramids and maybe have a sort of light into what the the culture was really like, especially if it's been untouched over time. Uh obviously you'd be aware of the history of of Peru and uh the um uh Incans obviously were kind of eradicated by the conquistadors that come across from Spain. So uh yeah, there will probably be a mixing of the cultures there. Um but currently Peru is quite a cosmopolitan city. Uh it's now 1921, it's a modern it's a modern city. The World War I is over, it's the roaring twenties now. So uh lots of uh prosperity and affluence going around in Peru's uh no exception. Uh Lima is quite the cosmopolitan city. Uh we say you've never been before, but uh uh you you'll certainly be heading there to meet to meet with the others. Marvellous.
SPEAKER_02Uh Chris, can I Chris? Steve, can I move one stat around? I like the idea of him being charming.
SPEAKER_04You can, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_04If you haven't done it, then you may do so, yeah. Absolutely. Yeah, if you got to shape the character. So what are you swapping? What for what?
SPEAKER_02So I'm gonna take 30 out of psychology and put 30 in charm, so that'd be 45. No, we want it to be 50, don't we? So I'll take another five out, so it'll be fifty.
SPEAKER_04Fifty means you're you know, you're you're pretty good at it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Stops the um the embarrassing faux pas of trying to try something you're not very good at.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, charming gentleman. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_04Yes, legal stuff. Um next thing you do, uh you you would be traveling. Well, I see most people would be travelling light to uh to Peru, but um obviously you might have more luggage spaces. Um the expedition, you would have had basic connections with Augustus Larkin. He's from originally from Nairobi. He well was born in Nairobi, he's his his father's rich once more, and his father built a lot of the railways or paid for a lot of railways, as someone pointed out, not actually built them himself. Um, and obviously this Augustus Larkin's a young, youngish guy, and he just wanted to go exploring. So, you know, you you know, you'd you you'd have heard of him vaguely. He's not a famous explorer, he's a rich kid, really. Uh that uh is is looking to earn some fortune, in your opinion. Um so gear and possessions. Yeah, there is lists, obviously. I've just written good clothing, walking stick, top hat. Yeah, so write some stuff down you think you would have. I'm I'm more happy with that. Uh elephant.
SPEAKER_02I like the idea of I like the idea of you know look when witch people go fishing, they buy all the all the top gear that's completely stupid. I like the one. Yeah, exactly. So when we go when we go out for our first kind of uh adventure uh our expedition, I'm gonna be in all the top level gear, which is completely pointless, you know, like the five.
SPEAKER_04You have expedition, you overpacking.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but it'd be stupid, it'll be like it'll be like silly stuff. You know, everyone's gonna turn up with like decent clothing with pockets everywhere, and I'm gonna turn up in a gentleman's cravat.
SPEAKER_04But and about about five different dress shoes.
SPEAKER_02Exactly that, but just just a little bit greener than normal, you know.
SPEAKER_04Okay. So you would have some hiking boots, but they're very uh inappropriate and really for the coxoles.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Well imagine what a gentleman with loads of money thinks an explorer would be. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, okay. So you have lots of money, you just you're not taking any chances, you're just buying everything and bringing it with you.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you never know. You never know.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it might be issues for valets, but uh yeah, you can you can travel with a fair bit of luggage, but you can put your most pertinent gear and possessions down. Weaponry, I'm assuming this guy travels without them. I mean, he's legal to if you've got licenses, you can, you know. I don't know if you obviously probably you've got no skill in it, you probably don't shoot at the weekends. Maybe it didn't really take your fancy.
SPEAKER_02No, the only thing I've think of is maybe you would have a shotgun, but I don't want to take the shotgun if that makes any sense. I could see if we'd play pigeon shooting.
SPEAKER_04I think there's a basic shotgun that everyone can do, isn't there? I don't know whether it's would he?
SPEAKER_02He wouldn't bring his he wouldn't bring his hunting shotgun.
SPEAKER_04That says unlikely. I mean, obviously you are going into the um the Andes mountings, uh, you know, but you people will have been employed for this sort of thing to uh to carry this sort of equipment.
SPEAKER_02Well fire arm shotgun is 25, yeah.
SPEAKER_04So you know it's you know shotguns can be picked up at some stage, I'm sure. But uh yeah, Lima.
SPEAKER_02I don't want to lean into the combat thing, I want to lean out of it.
SPEAKER_04So yeah, that's fine. Yeah, that's cool. Yeah, I think metal, I think Mark, I think Barry is uh about Osman was good for a rifle. I think John as well was rifle. A few of them have weapons, but nobody was particularly great at brawl, which might be interesting.
SPEAKER_02Uh no, my internet gets me out of it. I don't I don't I don't need to do this sort of stuff.
SPEAKER_04But yeah, but things like rifles, they would find that in Lima, they'd have to have them packed away, and you can't be wandering around streets with with rifles in such a cosmos modern city.
SPEAKER_03Exactly, yeah.
SPEAKER_04But uh yeah, handguns maybe a different matter you can secrete. But uh yeah, no, it's cool. Your character's not worried about the um personal protection.
unknownNope.
SPEAKER_04That's fine. Um, it's unlikely you would have travelled with any personal servants. I suppose you probably would have paid for some on board the boat. Yeah, when we get there, when when we Yeah, that apparently is being covered, but you can discuss it with all dust dust is lacking. I mean, obviously he's looking for backers as well. I mean, any sort of cash you could throw his way would have been quite appreciated, but uh all this discussion can be had uh on the on the meets. Uh there is a there is a telegram you were received before you left. Um I think you would have received on the boat. Says, would thank you for joining the expedition. Stop. Please join me in Lima, stop. I've booked your room at Hotel Moray, stop. Meet 18th March at 7 pm at the Bar Cordano. Giron on Cash 202, Distrito de Lima. Stop, Augustus Larkin. So you would receive this sort of confirmation. Uh so you know you would be coming in on a on a on a steamer and then you would probably go straight to uh to the uh the bar and then on to your hotel. You you might have done a bit of research on the hotel moray.
SPEAKER_02It is a nice hotel, even though I'll I'll have the penthouse, I'll have the the main room, the Queen's room.
SPEAKER_04Well you can you could discuss that with them when you get there. But uh uh yeah, I mean Lee Lima probably isn't up to your standards. It's not the writs, uh, but it is you know that they're they're doing their very best. Uh but yeah, okay, so add so any sort of equipment you might think you're you're you're bringing along. I'm happy enough for you to to fill that out how you see fit in any sort of comedic or non-comedic kind of way. You carry lots of bags and stuff and lots of lots of inappropriate clothing. I like it, I like the sound of it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, like I said, what what you'd think a rich person would think that an outdoorsman would wear, he will wear it'll be pristine white, you know.
SPEAKER_04Yes, a nice white linen suits. Oh yes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's gotta it's gotta be white, have to be clean all the time.
SPEAKER_04Heaps of south. Well, Lima, well, it's Peru at the moment is in March, is the end of summer. So it is warm there, but Lima's at low altitude.
SPEAKER_02A gentleman does not take change the fashion just because of heat.
SPEAKER_04No, it is it is hot, but not massively hot there. Uh it's more it's more humid than it is hot when it's time in Peru. So about 26 degrees and incredibly humid.
SPEAKER_02Perfect suit weather.
SPEAKER_04Yes, nice, nice leaning suit. Um obviously you have a suit for all occasions. Cool. I think that's pretty much it for that. Um just yeah, just set your your background up, get some artwork, get an idea of what when we sort of introduce characters, what he looks like, what's you know, that sort of thing, why is that the um expedition?
SPEAKER_02Well, everybody, look after yourself.
SPEAKER_04See you later. I'll see you then.
SPEAKER_02Bye bye.
SPEAKER_00DJ straight straight straight.
